Located about an hour south of Tampa along Florida’s Gulf Coast, Sarasota is one of my favorite cities in the world. It is also where my wife and I went for our honeymoon in 2001. Though home to less than 60,000 residents with a metro population of 700,000+ (Wikipedia), Sarasota prides itself on cultural sophistication and abounds with urban scenery thanks to a skyline of eclectic modern towers that stretches around the eastern and northern shores of a glistening blue bay speckled with sailboats and yachts. Favorite attractions that I have visited in Sarasota include Bayfront Park (where the photos posted below were taken), Mote Marine Aquarium, St. Armonds Circle, and Selby Botanical Gardens. Just southwest of Downtown is the island of Siesta Key, renown for having one of the best beaches in the United States (see separate entry).
